Yorktown to Participate in Music for All National Festival, March 14-16

The Yorktown High School Symphonic Band and Percussion Ensemble will be represented among select musical ensembles that are invited to perform at the 28th annual Music for All National Festival, presented by Yamaha, March 14-16 in Indianapolis. Ensembles were selected following a recorded audition process, evaluated by a panel of nationally-esteemed conductors and music educators.

The Music for All National Festival showcases the finest high school and middle school music ensembles and student musicians in America, shining a spotlight on outstanding music-making and the importance of music education. Seventy-one concert bands, orchestras, choirs, percussion ensembles, and chamber ensembles from across America have been selected to perform at the 2019 Festival.

The Yorktown High School Symphonic Band and Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Brian Bersh, will perform in concert in one of Indianapolis’s premier halls and receive post-concert clinics for future growth, providing an educational experience for both teachers and students. The ensembles also participate in master classes and special events, including a 3,000-guest Gala Awards Banquet.

The Yorktown Band is a 2018 Virginia Honor Band, and recent accolades for the program include being named a GRAMMY Signature Schools semi-finalist and receiving a SupportMusic Merit Award from The NAMM Foundation for outstanding commitment to music education. The Music for All National Festival is comprised of several events:  National Concert Band Festival, Orchestra America National Festival, National Choir Festival, Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival, Middle School National Music Festival, Chamber Music National Festival, and three national honor ensembles: The Honor Band of America, the Honor Orchestra of America, and the Jazz Band of America.

Grand National Championships and Regional Championships for marching bands, the Music for All Summer Symposium camp for students and teachers, and the Music for All National Festival for bands, orchestras, choirs, percussion and chamber ensembles. Music for All also presents affiliate regional music festivals and national student honor ensembles including the Bands of America Honor Band that will march for the fifth time in the Rose Parade® in 2021. Arlington Public Schools to Participate Summer Meals Program

Arlington Public Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to students ages 18 and under on a first come, first serve basis, from July 5-Aug. 1 at Carlin Springs Elementary School (5995 5th Road S.).
