Performance Based Assessment (PBA) Scores for World Geography, World History I, and World History II
Students participated in performance based assessments as one part of a process used to award verified credits to students still in need of a verified credit in Social Studies. Multiple performance assessments were scored by APS classroom teachers who reviewed essays using core criteria and task specific rubric components from the HSS State Developed Common Rubric-Early Secondary. All teachers participated in division wide scoring calibration training. The score that is being reported is the highest student score for the core criteria of the rubric. The task specific criteria varied by task and feedback on those components, as well as the core criteria reported here, have been provided to students as part of classroom instruction. The overall score for students on each performance assessment range from 0-4 or 99 if a student did not submit the assignment. As the score that is being reported is only one portion of the process that was used to award credit this year, a high score in this portion of the process does not necessarily mean that a student has earned their verified credit for the course.
A Score of 4 indicates the student Fully Met Expectations. At this level, students:
- Integrated relevant and correct content and vocabulary with thorough explanations that demonstrate in-depth understanding.
- Made significant, specific connections between multiple sources to explain the topic.
- Used evidence to consistently develop, support, and sharpen the claim, explanation, or argument.
A Score of 3 indicates the student Mostly Met Expectations. At this level, students:
- Included correct content and vocabulary relevant to the task that demonstrate understanding
- Made a connection between sources to explain or argue
- Explained evidence to develop and support the claim explanation or argument.
A Score of 2 indicates that the student is Developing. At this level, students:
- Included content and vocabulary relevant to the task; shows inconsistent understanding; content may contain minor errors.
- Identified or listed information from multiple sources to support the claim, explanation or argument.
- Limited connections made.
A Score of 1 indicates that the student is Emerging. At this level students:
- Included content or vocabulary, but understanding is limited; content is irrelevant or inaccurate.
- Included information or quotes from one source to explain, argue, or make a claim.
- No connections made.
A Score of 0 indicates Not Observed. At this level students:
- Submitted a response, but did not attempt to answer the question or address the skills.
A Score of 99 indicates Did not Submit. At this level students:
- Did not submit the assignment
If there is no score reported in Synergy, the student was not in need of a verified credit for social studies.
