Supplemental Educational Services

The federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), formerly known as the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), required that school divisions offer certain students the opportunity to participate in tutoring through Supplemental Educational Services (SES).

With the United States Department of Education’s approval of the Virginia Department of Education’s Request for ESEA Flexibility, this requirement has been waived. In accordance with these regulations, the 2011-12 school year was the last in which Virginia schools participated in SES. Archived information about past participation in APS’ SES program are available. Questions about the APS program may be directed to the office of Research, Program Planning, and Grants.

Beginning with the 2012-13 school year, SES was no longer offered in APS.
