Yorktown Theatre Presents Losing Faith

Losing Faith Written by YHS Alum

Yorktown High School Theater Arts presents a workshop production of Losing Faith, a play written by Yorktown graduate Ian McWethy. The performance will take place on Thu, May 17 at 7 p.m. in the Blackbox Theater.

Collaboration has always been a vital part of the Yorktown Theatre Program. This year the Theatre IV class has been lucky enough to collaborate with McWethy, a Yorktown theatre alum and playwright, to workshop one of his newest plays about grief and loss, Losing Faith.

During the workshop, students provided feedback to McWethy’s draft script, and then he incorporated their suggestions by adding additional characters and dialogue, based on what the students conveyed to him about the lives of current teens.

The play focuses on the day of Faith Denholtz’s funeral where 16 of her classmates find themselves again and again in conversations about faith. Conversations that are honest and awkward, real and melodramatic, painful and surprisingly funny, all in an attempt to make sense out of the senseless. A comedic and heartfelt play about how we deal, and don’t deal, with grief.

The performance is free and open to the public.
