The Washington-Lee High School Education Foundation has awarded 17 scholarships to seniors. The $1,500 scholarships are to help students with college expenses in the fall. Only once in the past 20 years have this many students been selected as recipients.

Mattie Diarra – College of William and Mary
Katerina Forrest – George Mason University
Mirna Galdamez – Marymount University
Tengis Gantulga – Virginia Polytechnic and State University
Paola Gonzalez Cifuentes – George Mason University
Jack Horton – Duke University
Jayaprakash Kambhampaty – Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Usman Khan – Northern Virginia Community College
Leakena Khy – Marymount Manhattan College
Gabriel Matteson – University of Mary Washington
Juneyoung Ro – Emory University
Melisa Suarez Zapata – Northern Virginia Community College
Essi Wunderman – Middlebury College
Haben Yohannes – Virginia Commonwealth University
These scholarships are highly competitive, and are based on academics, essay, activities, educational goals, and financial need. The scholarships are funded by donations from alumni, parents, staff and community. Students may seek $1,000 renewals for the next three years.
