Update on the High School Refinement Process: Next Meeting on Oct. 27

Update on the High School Refinement Process
Boundary Tool Closes at Noon on Mon, Oct. 24

Arlington Public Schools has completed all of the “Getting Started” community meetings on refinements to the high school attendance zone boundaries. If families and community members were unable to attend any of the meetings, you can still watch the video online at aps2016.apsva.us/apsboundaries (click on “Meetings and What We’ve Heard” in the left column).

An updated list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) has been posted online. More than 30 additional questions and answers have been added, covering a wide range of topics including information about IB, residency, capacity and enrollment, and sibling preferences.

At this point, no decisions have been made and community feedback is still encouraged and welcomed. The community can provide their feedback in a number of ways:

Once the Boundary Refinement Tool closes, staff will begin compiling feedback to develop a set of options for the School Board to consider in November.

Next Steps
APS will host a “What We Heard” community meeting at 7 p.m. on Thu, Oct. 27 at Washington-Lee High School in the cafeteria. During that meeting, staff will share what they have heard from the community and ask for additional suggestions to help inform the options that will be presented to the School Board on November 3. The meeting will be Live Streamed for those who cannot attend. A link will be posted on the Boundaries webpage and the APS homepage.

After the Superintendent presents the options to the School Board on Nov. 3, the School Board will meet in a Work Session on Wed, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Wakefield High School cafeteria. At the next School Board meeting on Tue, Nov. 15, the Board has scheduled time for a public hearing which will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Board will approve the high school boundary refinements on Thu, Dec. 1 so that the refinements can be shared with families at the High School Information Night on Mon, Dec. 12.
