Tdap Vaccine Required for Rising 7th Graders

Español

As your child prepares for seventh grade, we want to provide you with important information about the required vaccination for all middle school students in the state of Virginia.

Required Seventh Grade Vaccination: The Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) and is required by the Commonwealth of Virginia for all students entering seventh grade.

You must provide proof of your child’s Tdap vaccination (or exemption) to the school clinic before the first day of seventh grade. Your child will NOT be able to start school without this information.

If your child has not received this vaccine from his/her pediatrician and you wish to have your child to receive this free vaccine at the Arlington County Health Department, please call 703-228-1200 for an appointment.

Note: If your student has already received the vaccination or has an exemption, please mail a copy of the up-to-date record to the middle school your child will attend in the fall, by Sept. 8, 2020.
