Updated: Tdap Immunization Reminder and Clinic Dates

Updated: As the new school year approaches, APS reminds parents and guardians that all incoming sixth grade students must provide documentation that they have received a Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap) booster immunization before the first day of school. Students who do not submit documentation of an up-to-date Tdap vaccine will not be permitted to start school.If your student has already received the immunization, please bring verification to your middle school’s clinic by Thu, Aug. 30.If you submitted Tdap documentation to your child’s elementary school last spring, you do not need to resubmit it to your middle school.There are several ways to receive the vaccination, including:

  1. Sixth Grade Orientations: Clinics will be held at each middle school during the school’s 6th grade orientation. Students can only receive the immunization from the school they are attending.
    • H-B Woodlawn – Thu, Aug. 30 from 11 a.m.-Noon
    • New Time: Gunston – Thu, Aug. 30 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
    • Jefferson – Thu, Aug. 30 from 3-5 p.m.
    • Kenmore – Thu, Aug. 30 from 6-7 p.m.
    • Swanson – Thu, Aug. 30 from 10 a.m.-Noon
    • Williamsburg – Thu, Aug. 30 from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
  2. Arlington County Immunization Clinic: Students can receive a free Tdap vaccine at the Arlington County Open Immunization Clinic on a walk-in basis during clinic hours.
    • Location: 2100 Washington Blvd., 2nd floorArlington, VA 22204No appointment is necessary.

Clinic HoursTuesdays: 3-6:30 p.m.Wednesdays: 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.Fridays: 7:30-11 a.m.

  1. A Medical Provider: Students can also receive their Tdap immunization from their medical provider.

For students who are unable to get the Tdap immunization at one of the above clinics, the CVS Minute Clinic, located at 3133 Lee Hwy., offers the vaccine. There may be a fee.Students must bring proof of a current Tdap immunization to the school clinic on or before Tue, Sept. 4 to attend school.For more information, please contact the clinic at your child’s new middle school.
