School Board Approves 2022-23 School Year Calendar

The School Board approved the calendar for the 2022-23 school year at its Dec. 16 meeting. The 2022-23 school year will start on Mon, Aug. 29. and ends June 14 for high school students, June 15 for middle school students and June 16 for elementary students.

Other key dates include:

  • Labor Day* – Fri, Sept. 2 and Mon, Sept. 5
  • Rosh Hashanah – Sept. 26
  • Yom Kippur – Oct. 5
  • Columbus Day/Indigenous People’s Day – Oct. 10
  • Diwali – Oct. 24
  • Veterans Day – Nov. 11
  • Thanksgiving Break – Nov. 23-25
  • Winter Break – Dec. 19-Jan. 2
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – Jan. 16
  • President’s Day – Feb. 20
  • Spring Break – April 3-10
  • Memorial Day – May 29

*§22.1-79.1 (Opening of the School Year; Approvals for Certain Alternative Schedules) “In each school division in which the school board sets the school calendar so that the first day students are required to attend school is before Labor Day, such school board shall close each school in the school division from the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day through Labor Day.”

Next School Board Meeting:
The School Board will hold its next regular meeting (2110 Washington Blvd.) on Thu., Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. The agenda will be posted one week before the meeting on BoardDocs.
