In this week’s episode, Historical Markers visits the original Cherrydale Fire Station. Home to the Cherrydale Volunteer Fire Department, the station was opened in 1919. The station served as a meeting place for the community and was staffed solely by volunteers until 1940 when Arlington County augmented staffing with career fire fighters.
Watch this short video about the fire station and use #APSHistoricalMarkers to respond to and ask questions about its history. The Historical Markers video series, produced by APS, highlights just a few of the more than 80 historical markers highlighting important sites in Arlington’s past to engage students in learning about local history.
