Ashlawn Recognized by League of American Bicyclists

Ashlawn Elementary School received a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Business award from the League of American Bicyclists. Ashlawn is one of 59 organizations recognized by the League of American Bicyclists and one of the first schools to earn this recognition.

Ashlawn was recognized for its goal to increase the number of staff and students commuting by bicycle to school. The award also acknowledges the efforts that have gone into education, encouragement and infrastructure at Ashlawn and it shows community support for green transportation.

Ashlawn joins the ranks of other Arlington businesses who are Bicycle Friendly Businesses, in Bicycle Friendly Community of Arlington.The League’s Bicycle Friendly America program provides a roadmap, hands-on assistance and recognition for states, communities, universities and businesses.

Arlington Public Schools to Participate Summer Meals Program

Arlington Public Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to students ages 18 and under on a first come, first serve basis, from July 5-Aug. 1 at Carlin Springs Elementary School (5995 5th Road S.).
