Dear APS Families:
Here are a few brief reminders for this short week:
National School Psychology Week (Nov. 7-11) – Throughout the week, APS is profiling our school psychologists and the different ways they work with teachers and staff to help students learn and grow. Their work is instrumental to student success. Learn more.
Recognizing Military Families – Our schools are closed this Friday in recognition of Veterans Day, and November is also Military Family Appreciation Month—a time to recognize the sacrifices our students, families, and staff make to support loved ones in uniform. I’d also like to take this opportunity to recognize the eight schools that earned the Distinguished Purple Star Designation from the Virginia Dept. of Education for their commitment to our military-connected students and families.
Health Reminders – The weather is getting colder, and many schools are experiencing an uptick in students coming to school sick. Please continue to keep your student(s) at home if they are experiencing signs of illness. There is a new swab that will test for three illnesses at once (COVID, Flu, and RSV). Here is a flyer with more information.
Thank You for Supporting Our Schools – While final precincts are still reporting, nearly 77 percent of voters approved this year’s $165 million School Bond on Tuesday. The funds will support multiple facilities and infrastructure projects to strengthen our schools and serve the changing needs of students. Congratulations to Bethany Sutton who was elected to the Arlington School Board. She will replace outgoing board member Dr. Barbara Kanninen beginning in the new calendar year.
Enjoy the long weekend!
Dr. Francisco Durán
