Career Center TV Production Students Win State Awards

Arlington Career Center students recently competed and excelled in the SkillsUSA state competition. Career Center Television Production students were awarded State SkillsUSA Championship medals  by SkillsUSA representative, Dr. Lee Ross. Thirteen Television Production students competed in six different contests and all were awarded medals. The competitions were held virtually on April 20-21.

Leading the way for the Career Center were juniors Lina Barclay and Ellie Nix who won the first place gold medal in the Television (Video) Production contest. They had four hours to plan, shoot and edit a video adhering to the prompt “Education During Covid.” They both qualified for the National SkillsUSA Virtual Championships on June 11. They will be part of the Virginia team that is competing against the rest of the country. Gold Medal Video-Television(Video) Production

Seniors Peter Collins and Emilio Tognelli won the first place gold medal in the Television Production Pre Produced-Cuts Only contest with their piece on addiction. Gold Medal Video- Cuts Only- Addiction

SkillsUSA is a national organization that focuses on leadership skills for high school students. Students are given the opportunity to compete in contests against their peers at the local, state, and national levels. All contests are run by and judged by industry, using industry standards for employment.

All students are members of Tom O’Day’s Television Production classes at the Arlington Career Center.

Arlington Public Schools to Participate Summer Meals Program

Arlington Public Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to students ages 18 and under on a first come, first serve basis, from July 5-Aug. 1 at Carlin Springs Elementary School (5995 5th Road S.).
