APS Launches Data Review for Fall 2020 Elementary School Boundary Process

Español

Community Can Share Input Using Online Questionnaire by June 5
Beginning May 12, APS is inviting community members to review the data that will be used in the Fall 2020 Elementary School Boundary Process. This review of data by Planning Unit—the geographic building blocks APS uses to establish school attendance zones— will help ensure that the final data reflects what you know about your neighborhood and is accurate, complete, and ready for use in adjusting neighborhood elementary school boundaries this fall.

Data Review Community Questionnaire is available online in English and Spanish through Friday, June 5.   In the Fall 2020 Elementary School Boundary process, APS will develop attendance zones for the new neighborhood elementary schools at the Key and Reed sites, as well as a new neighborhood attendance zone around Arlington Science Focus Elementary School (ASFS). Boundary adjustments throughout the county will also address current and projected crowding at elementary schools. New boundaries will be adopted by December 2020 and will take effect in the 2021-22 school year.

This data review is an important step to prepare for and inform the upcoming boundary process. By sharing the data now and conducting this review with stakeholders before developing boundary scenarios, staff can gather valuable input from residents who know their neighborhoods. Using the questionnaire, community members can review data and share input by Planning Unit and can express a preference on methodology approaches for the Planning Unit projections.
