Washington-Lee High School Education Foundation Awards 2019 Scholarships to Seniors

Fifteen Washington-Lee High School seniors were selected to receive $1,500 scholarships from the Washington-Lee High School Education Foundation, Inc. to help them with college expenses in the fall.

The students and the colleges they will attend are:

Roshell Andrade – Trinity Washington University
Naomi Bergena – University of Wisconsin-Madison
Lucas Daniel – Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
Nasir Miah – Northern Virginia Community College
Michelle Mosqueda – Northern Virginia Community College
Kyle Nguyen – George Mason University
Rozina Nigussie – Virginia Commonwealth University
Sanaa Payge – Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
Saiqa Qureshi – George Mason University
Bryant Rocha – George Mason University
Roger Stanley – College of William and Mary
Hiwot Temesgen – George Washington University
Sydney Van de Meulebroecke – Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
Kevin Villalobos-Gonzalez – Northern Virginia Community College
Anne Zetkulic – University of Virginia

These scholarships are highly competitive, and are based on academics, essay, activities, educational goals, and financial need. The scholarships are funded by donations primarily from alumni, and also parents, staff and community. Students may seek $1,000 renewals for the next 3 years.

Arlington Public Schools to Participate Summer Meals Program

Arlington Public Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to students ages 18 and under on a first come, first serve basis, from July 5-Aug. 1 at Carlin Springs Elementary School (5995 5th Road S.).

At its June 22 meeting, the Arlington School Board appointed Dr. Liza Burrell-Aldana as Principal of Claremont Immersion Elementary School.
