The School Board appointed Breonna McClain as Principal of Ashlawn Elementary School. McClain is currently the assistant principal at Ashlawn.
“Breonna has a strong background in literacy as well as a deep understanding and passion for ensuring students become Global Citizens, which is evident by the work she has done at Ashlawn to enhance the Global Citizen Project,” said Superintendent Dr. Pat Murphy. “Her familiarity with the Ashlawn community and her enthusiasm for education makes her the perfect choice to continue the outstanding educational framework at Ashlawn.”
McClain holds a Bachelor’s in Education from Miami University and a Master’s in Education from Ashland University. She received a certificate in educational leadership from the George Washington University.McClain began her career teaching language arts and social studies at VanGorden Elementary School and then Independence Elementary School in Ohio.
In 2013, she began her career in Arlington as a middle school social studies, reading and English teacher at Williamsburg Middle School. McClain has been the assistant principal at Ashlawn since 2015. McClain worked closely, very early on at Williamsburg, with the school leadership teams to utilize data to enhance instruction and improve student achievement. This skill set carried over into her work at Ashlawn Elementary School.
Over the last two years, McClain has worked side-by-side with Judy Apostolico-Buck to lead staff in implementing core instructional practices, including professional learning communities and the Arlington Tiered System of Supports, that makes Ashlawn a top-notch school. She has a deep understanding and passion for ensuring students become Global Citizens, which is evident by the work she has done at Ashlawn to enhance the Global Citizen Project.
The appointment is effective July 1.
