Organizations Honored for Providing Internships to APS Students with Disabilities

Organizations Honored for Providing Internships to APS Students with Disabilities On June 8, APS invited business and community leaders, student interns, teachers, assistants, and transition coordinators to gather together for the Third Annual Employer Appreciation Celebration. Organizations were recognized for hosting student interns who are enrolled in Stratford, Life Skills Programs at each Arlington High School, and the Program for Employment. Each organization provided an internship experience for students where they learned skills that will help them increase the likelihood of obtaining employment when they leave their secondary programs as young adults. Each employer received a certificate of appreciation thanking them for opening doors of opportunity to APS students, providing internship training prospects, creating invaluable learning experiences and offering authentic preparation to enter the workforce as productive citizens. Five employers received a special recognition plaque for their steadfast employment training support. This year’s recipients are: Marymount University Sports Medicine, Cherrydale United Methodist Church, Brown’s Arlington Honda, Photo Scope and Arlington Food Assistance Center. APS is also looking for opportunities to expand internships. If your organization is interested in partnering with the school division, please contact the Department of Student Services and Special Education at 703-228-6040.
