Virtual@APS is different from our K-12 Virtual Learning Program during the 2021-22 school year. Please visit the VLP site for more information on that program.

Arlington Public Schools provides virtual/online learning opportunities in a variety of ways in order to meet the needs of all APS students.  A select number of courses are taught by APS teachers through our learning management system and mirror the APS academic calendar.  Additional virtual/online course providers are also utilized in order to provide a more robust set of course offerings.  These providers are approved by the Virginia Department of Education and each course is individually approved by the appropriate APS content area supervisor.

Students wishing to enroll in a course that is not included in the APS Program of Studies as a virtual/online course should speak with their school counselor.   APS students must receive advance approval to enroll in a virtual/onnline course that is currently not offered in the APS Program of Studies or for a virtual/online course by a provider outside the auspices of Arlington Public Schools to receive credit for the course.  If not offered by APS (or the student is unable to take the APS course for reasons approved and verified by the school the student is attending), the course must be offered by an accredited institution or offered by a provider which meets the Virginia Department of Education criteria for approved providers; aligned with the appropriate Virginia Standards of Learning, where applicable; and of an appropriate grade and content level comparable in level of rigor with any corresponding APS courses, accessible for all learners, and meet best practices for instructional design as outlined by the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL).
