EL Director

 

EL Supervisor

The Supervisor for the Office of English Learners is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the program and related services. The Supervisor also recommends appropriate changes in the program to reflect the evolving needs of English learners based upon current research. The Supervisor is the functional unit manager for local, state and federal funds designated for English learners. Specialists, Resource Specialists, Language Services Registration Center staff and other Office of English Learners staff work with the Supervisor to provide services.

EL Specialist, Elementary

The Elementary EL Specialist for the Office of English Learners is responsible for planning and providing professional development related to English learners; coordinating curriculum development for the English Learner program; revising and adapting curriculum to ensure system-wide consistency of standards and assessments; providing assistance to support EL teachers; overseeing the elementary EL summer school program; coordinating rising 6th grade and end-of-year procedures to determine student placement; monitoring student progress and analyzing assessment results; working with other instructional programs and departments to provide effective instructional programs for ELs; and facilitating textbook adoption.

EL Specialist, Secondary

The Secondary EL Specialist for the Office of English Learners is responsible for planning and providing professional development related to ELs; coordinating curriculum development for the EL program; revising and adapting curriculum to ensure system-wide consistency of standards and assessments; providing assistance to support EL teachers; overseeing the middle and high school EL summer school program; coordinating end-of-year procedures to determine student placement; monitoring student progress and analyzing assessment results; working with other instructional programs and departments to provide effective instructional programs for ELs; and facilitating textbook adoption.

EL Specialist, Resource

The EL Resource Specialist for the Office of English Learners is responsible for coordinating three teams of support personnel who assist English learners and their families.  EL Resource Counselors support the social-emotional well-being of immigrant students.  EL Resource Teachers provide instructional support to students who are eligible to receive both English Learner and Special Education support.  The Bilingual Family Specialists connect with families, invite them to engage with the school activities, and provide a conduit for communication between school and home/home and school.

SIOP Coach & EL Early Childhood Specialist

The SIOP Coach assists teachers throughout Arlington Public Schools with the implementation of strategies that support English learners. The SIOP Coach provides professional development at the individual, department-, school-, and county-wide level and coordinates SIOP professional learning with outside vendors.
