Parental Notification of Instructional Materials with Sexually Explicit Content

In compliance with updates to Virginia Code § 22.1-3 16.8 and Arlington Public School Board Policy I-9.1 Selection of Instructional Resources, instructional resources that are deemed as sexually explicit must be provided for review by parents/guardians and, if desired by the parent/guardians and/or the student, an alternative instructional material provided.

The list of APS adopted resources by content area will be documented on this webpage. This list will be routinely updated as we continue to review new materials. If a teacher intends to use any resource that contains sexually explicit content, the teacher will notify the parent/guardian 30 days in advance. Parents/guardians who would like their student to be given an alternative assignment should contact the student’s teacher no later than five business days prior to the assignment of the instructional resource.
