Community Discussion on March 5 – Acceptable Use Policy for Student Devices Used for Learning
APS will host a community discussion on Monday, March 5, on a policy for student devices used for learning. This policy will address such topics as internet safety, digital citizenship, rights and responsibilities, and shared ownership. Join us at 7 p.m. in the Wakefield High School cafeteria (1325 S. Dinwiddie St. 22206).

This is the second of two policies on this topic; the School Board will consider this second policy as an information item on March 22 and an action item on April 5. On Feb. 1, the School Board adopted the first APS acceptable use policy for student devices used for learning, which is specific to federal guidelines and filtering. Elementary School Planning Initiative – Community Input on Walk Zone Review
APS will open new elementary schools in 2019 and 2021. Staff is currently reviewing walk zones for all elementary schools to identify possible areas for safe expansion as part of the process to create new school attendance zones, review elementary school locations, and balance enrollment across schools.

APS is working with community groups at each elementary school site to identify possible areas where the school walk zone might be safely expanded so that more students can walk to school. Community members are asked to provide their input on the walk zone of elementary schools in their neighborhoods using questionnaires and maps for each school site at aps2016.apsva.us/elementary-school-boundary-change/walkzonereview/.

Deadlines to complete the questionnaires vary by school between March 12 and 19, in accordance with the meeting schedule for School Task Group working sessions. For more information, visit aps2016.apsva.us/elementary-school-boundary-change/walkzonereview/.
