Secondary Lottery Information for School Year 2022-23

Thank you for your interest in the different option schools/programs Arlington Public Schools offers. The application period closed on January 21, 2022 for all secondary option schools/programs.

The number of applicants exceeded the number of available spaces at all option schools/programs; therefore, we held double-blind lotteries for admission to those locations on January 31, 2022. Students who applied, but were not selected through the lottery, have been placed on a waitlist.

Families can view the status of their application by logging into their School Mint account. As outlined in the application process, all families need to respond by February 21, 2022 of their decision for fall 2022.

Students who applied to more than one school program and were eligible may have been admitted to more than one school/program or placed on the waitlist. As a result, families will need to make a final decision regarding which school/program the student will attend by February 21, 2022. We are asking families to use the SchoolMint online application portal to let us know if the student is accepting or declining admission. If you have been accepted to more than one option school/program, once a commitment is made for the fall of 2022, the student’s name will be removed from any other admission and/or waitlist. If a student did not receive an offer to their first choice, they can decline the offer to their second or third choice and remain on the waitlist for their first choice. Students who did not receive offers can remain on more than one waitlist until they receive an offer and must decide.

Transportation

Transportation is available for students attending option schools/programs who live outside their school’s walk zone (View school bus eligibility maps). All transportation for option school and programs is provided via hub stops. Hub stops are central locations—such as a community center or school—where students from several neighborhoods meet to catch the bus to their school and may be a longer distance from a student’s residence. Transportation is not provided for neighborhood transfers or administrative placements. Select here to learn more about transportation for option schools.

If you have any questions regarding the application process, lotteries and/or waitlists, please send an email to schooloptions@apsva.us, and we will be happy to assist you.
