What is the mask requirement for athletics and band?

updated Sept. 13:

• Outdoor athletics/activities: no masks required, but testing is strongly encouraged especially for non-vaccinated students
• Indoor athletics/activities: masks are required indoors, but teams will be tested daily and mask requirements can be lifted if testing is negative.
• Secondary Marching Band:
  • Outdoor – no masks
  • Indoor – masks and testing (same as an athletic team)

Instrumental Music

• No additional spacing required
• Students need to use bell covers on wind instruments when playing indoors.
• No bell covers required outdoors.
• APS Arts Ed has purchased bell covers for wind instruments.
• Students can wear a slit or regular mask when playing a wind instrument, they can lower a regular mask while playing.
• Percussion students need to be masked always when indoors.
• String instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass) do not need bell covers (only standard face mask for student).
• Percussion instruments do not need bell covers (only face mask for student).
• Students should wash their hands or sanitize at the start and end of class.
• No audience limitations currently

Choral and General Music:

• No additional spacing required.
• Every student must wear a face mask 3 layers well fitted cloth or disposable masks are recommended.
• Singing indoors can only occur while being masked.
• No masks required if singing outdoors.
• No recorder playing indoors.
• Students should wash their hands or sanitize at the start and end of class.
• No audience limitations currently

Theater:

• No additional spacing required.
• Every student must wear a face mask.
• Singing will only be allowed while being masked.
• Singing can take place outdoors without masks.
• Students should wash their hands or sanitize at the start and end of class.
• No audience limitations currently

Visual Art:

• No additional spacing required.
• Every student must wear a face mask.
• Materials can be shared and will be wiped down as needed.
• Students should wash their hands or sanitize at the start and end of class.
