Wakefield High School Resource Teacher for the Gifted Wendy Maitland has been selected as the Educator of the Year for the Arlington branch of American Association of University Women.
The award is in honor of the various programs she offers that empowers young women to consider STEM careers. In particular, taking 21 female students to the SADIE Collective Conference as well as attending a Congressional Gold Medal Celebration Honoring NASA women who inspired Hidden Figures; the Black Engineer of the Year Conference; and the Audi & STEM for Her– iDrive Competition.
She also sponsors Wakefield’s Girls Who Code club and is a co-sponsor for Cohort and United Minority Girls programs.
