Wakefield Resource Teacher for the Gifted Named AAUW Educator of the Year

Wakefield High School Resource Teacher for the Gifted Wendy Maitland Wakefield High School Resource Teacher for the Gifted Wendy Maitland has been selected as the Educator of the Year for the Arlington branch of American Association of University Women.

The award is in honor of the various programs she offers that empowers young women to consider STEM careers. In particular, taking 21 female students to the SADIE Collective Conference as well as attending a Congressional Gold Medal Celebration Honoring NASA women who inspired Hidden Figures; the Black Engineer of the Year Conference; and the Audi & STEM for Her– iDrive Competition.

She also sponsors Wakefield’s Girls Who Code club and is a co-sponsor for Cohort and United Minority Girls programs.

Arlington Public Schools to Participate Summer Meals Program

Arlington Public Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to students ages 18 and under on a first come, first serve basis, from July 5-Aug. 1 at Carlin Springs Elementary School (5995 5th Road S.).

At its June 22 meeting, the Arlington School Board appointed Dr. Liza Burrell-Aldana as Principal of Claremont Immersion Elementary School.
