The New York City Brass Fund Band, Lucky Chops, has been challenging their fan base to make arrangements of their songs for a larger number of instruments. Recently, Kenmore eighth grader, Henry Price and Washington-Liberty freshman Jeremy Fagen (former Kenmore student) created an arrangement of the Lucky Chops’ song “Full Heart FANcy” for 20 instruments and submitted it for consideration.
Their arrangement was selected, and Lucky Chops sent out the arrangement to 250 musicians followers who recorded themselves playing the arrangement. The band arranged to have the videos edited and released the song on Youtube on May 25. Price and Fagen are featured in the video playing several parts and listed as the arrangers of the song. Both Henry and Jeremy have used their time in quarantine to further pursue their passion for music by practicing their instruments for long periods and taking on projects such as this one. They have submitted a second arrangement for consideration in response to the band’s latest call for submissions.
Lucky Chops has been unleashing high-energy brassy funk on the world since forming in NYC in 2006. The original members were all students at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Performing Arts in New York. The intensity of the band’s energy is fueled by their desire to share the healing and inspirational power of music with others. That power has resonated with audiences around the globe, giving the band hundreds of millions of views on their online videos and leading to live performances in more than twenty-five countries. The band members are also committed to music education, regularly performing clinics and educational outreaches to help train and inspire the next generation of musicians.
