School Board Approves School Resource Officer Working Group Charge

Superintendent provides update on revised hybrid/in-person plan

The School Board adopted the charge and established the APS and School Resource Officers Work Group at its Oct. 8 meeting.

The work group has been created to primarily address the community concerns expressed to the School Board and Superintendent regarding the relationship and the operations that Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) have with APS. The work of the Work Group will also serve to meet the requirement to review the memorandum of understanding with our local law enforcement and ensure opportunity for community input during the review per VA Code § 22.1-280.2:3.

Work group members will work together to formulate recommendations to the Superintendent and School Board for submission in June 2021.

More information, including the application, will be included on the Engage webpage. Applications will be accepted through Nov. 9 and the School Board will approve work group members at the Dec. 3 meeting.

The presentation is available on BoardDocs.

Revised Hybrid/In-Person Plan
Superintendent Dr. Francisco Durán presented the revised hybrid/in-person learning plan that was announced earlier this week. The plan includes updated elementary and middle school hybrid/in-person instructional models and adjusted student groupings for Return Levels 2 and 3. The deadline for Level 2 families, now including all PreK-5th grade students and students in select Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses, to update their preferred instructional model in ParentVUE has been extended to Wed, Oct. 21. (This is not a reference to a student’s English language proficiency level. The levels in this sense represent a group of students eligible to return for hybrid model instruction.)
