The School Board discussed and approved the educational specifications for the Career Center expansion at Thursday’s meeting. The approved motion included one addition to include the principal of universal design and a request for an update on ed specification in March 2020.
Educational Specifications help to translate strategic plans, policies and priorities into a comprehensive statement of expectations to guide educational facility planning and design. This Educational Specifications for the Arlington Career Center Expansion is site-specific and provides facility space requirements and planning criteria associated with the programs currently offered at the Career Center, as well as those associated with the two projects at the Career Center included in the FY 2019-28 Capital Improvements Plan (CIP).

ADDITIONAL ACTION ITEMS:
The School Board also approved the changes to project funding for both Dorothy Hamm Middle School and The Heights Building as presented for information at the Oct. 18 meeting. Any change orders exceeding $100,000 will be brought back to the School Board for further approvals.
MONITORING ITEM:
Staff provided an update on Career, Technical and Adult Education/Arlington Tech and Internships. The report highlighted enrollment, key indicators, work-based learning opportunities and recommendations. The full report is available online.

- 2020 Legislative Package – The Board discussed legislative and funding issues and initiatives that it will support during the 2020 session of the Virginia General Assembly.
- Middle and High School Program of Studies – Staff updated the Board on proposed course additions and deletions to the 2020-21 Middle and High School Program of Studies. The full presentation is available online.
RECOGNITIONS:
The Board began the meeting by recognizing APS school psychologists and School Psychology Awareness Week which takes place Nov. 11-15. The recognition featured a short presentation and video which showcases the work of APS school psychologists.

The School Board will hold its next Regular Meeting (2110 Washington Blvd.) on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. The agenda will be posted one week before the meeting on BoardDocs.
