School Board Appoints Principal of Taylor and Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources

The School Board made two leadership appointments at the July 1 Organizational School Board meeting. The board approved Katie Madigan as the Principal of Taylor Elementary School, effective July 5. They also appointed Michael Hodge as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, effective Sept. 1.

Katie Madigan has over 20 years of experience at both the elementary and middle school levels. She is an Arlington resident and parent. Madigan holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Kenyon College, an M.S. in Kinesiology from the University of New Hampshire, an M.Ed. in Elementary Education from Marymount University and an Ed.S. in Education Administration from the University of Virginia. She also has a gifted endorsement from the University of Virginia.

Madigan began her career as a third grade teacher at Hoffman-Boston Elementary School. She has also served as the Resource Teacher for the Gifted and Intersession Coordinator at Barcroft Elementary School. Since 2014, Madigan served as a school-based administrator in the role of a middle school assistant principal in both Alexandria City Public Schools and Fairfax County Public Schools. Most recently, she has served the Acting Principal during the 2020-21 school year and as the Director of Student Services.

As Madigan begins her new role as Principal of Taylor Elementary School, she believes that as students learn and grow, it is our responsibility as educators to foster a love of learning and curiosity while nurturing the whole child. She looks forward to working together to build a fun and safe environment, where all staff, students and families feel welcome and valued. Madigan is looking forward to becoming immersed in the Taylor Elementary School community.

Michael Hodge Appointed Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources
Assistant Superintendent of HR Michael Hodge Michael Hodge is a human resources (HR) professional with more than 15 years of diverse experience, which includes working for local government and school systems. He successfully held various positions such as HR specialist, generalist, supervisor, and senior leadership roles, as HR Manager and Deputy Director of HR Operations with the District of Columbia Government, and Director of HR Staffing for the Baltimore County Public Schools.

Over the course of his career, Hodge served as a key advisor for several organizational initiatives that includes the implementation of applicant tracking systems, enterprise resource planning (ERP) system upgrades, Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP), and employee leadership academies. Most importantly, he has a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and accomplishes tasks with customer service at the forefront.Hodge earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, a master’s degree in human resource management, is a Certified Professional in Managing Workplace Conflict, and a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Lastly, and most recently, he earned a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace certificate.
