School Board Appoints Principal of Claremont Immersion Elementary School

Dr. Burrell-AldanaAt its June 22 meeting, the Arlington School Board appointed Dr. Liza Burrell-Aldana as Principal of Claremont Immersion Elementary School.

🏡 Born in Colombia
🚌 Served as principal at Alexandria City Public Schools since 2017.
🏆 Named the 2023 Washington Post Principal of the Year, and recipient of the VA Association of Elementary School Principals (VAESP) School Bell Award.

  • Graduated from Universidad del Valle in Cali with a bachelor’s degree in foreign languages.
  • Awarded a scholarship from the School for International Training in Vermont to complete a Master of Arts in teaching and went on to pursue a master’s in education leadership from George Mason University.
  • Holds a professional Program Assessment and Evaluation certificate from Georgetown University and a Doctoral degree in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech University.

Dr. Burrell-Aldana started her career in public education with Arlington Public Schools at Claremont Immersion Elementary School. Dr. Burrell-Aldana is serving in the Virginia Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted and the Virginia Literacy Advisory Group.
