The team at the PRC extends congratulations to all APS graduates, and to all students, families and staff for pulling together during an incredibly challenging year. As restrictions are increasingly being lifted and more and more members of our community are getting vaccinated, it is exciting to be reconnecting with extended family and friends, and venturing back out into our community. We know there is much work to be done in the 21-22 academic year, but hope the summer proves to be a healthy, relaxing and restorative one for each of you and your loved ones.
As mentioned in a recent PRC Message, today we bid a fond farewell to our dear colleague, Kelly Mountain, who is embarking on her next adventure in a well-deserved retirement. Her presence and contributions will always be felt at our Parent Resource Center, and we are so grateful that Kelly chose to spend her final years in Arlington Public Schools working with us at the PRC.

We will send periodic updates and information during the summer months, and will resume our Weekly Messages during the week of August 30, 2021. Although the PRC will not host events during the summer, we will plan to keep our Events page updated with community events.

Each school year, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is required to report to the U.S. Department of Education the “Percent of parents with a child receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities.” Your participation in this survey will help VDOE collect additional information to identify training needs related to the special education processes. The VDOE will use the results of this survey to improve parental involvement in the special education process and improve outcomes for all students within the Commonwealth.
It is important to note that your responses are recorded anonymously and cannot be personally linked to your child.

Research shows that children who read for pleasure in the summer do better and forget less when they go back to school. And it’s not just in reading. Kids who don’t read over the summer can slide backward in all subject areas.
