In this week’s episode of Historical Markers, Superintendent Dr. Pat Murphy and author Kim O’Connell (Echoes of Little Saigon)  highlight a part of Clarendon that used to be known as Little Saigon.

In the mid-1970s, large numbers of immigrants from Vietnam moved into Arlington. While these Vietnamese people were learning new American culture, they thought it was important to preserve their own culture too. Business space was inexpensive in Clarendon so businesses run by Vietnamese merchants were established here. This area was called Little Saigon for the city of Saigon in Vietnam. Little Saigon became a home away from home for newly arrived immigrants.
