1. School Board Approves FY 2023 Budget
Last night, the School Board adopted the FY 2023 budget totaling $749,919,963. The FY23 budget for Arlington Public Schools prioritizes resources to foster student well-being and academic success. 2. Extended Day Registration for the 2022-23 School Year
Extended Day registration for the 2022-23 school year opens for returning families on May 24 and continues through June 7. Summer School Extended Day registration is ongoing. Additional details are available online. 3
3. Inside the Classroom at TJMS—Social Studies Program Highlight
This week’s Crosswalks video provides a look inside an eighth-grade World Geography class at Thomas Jefferson Middle School and highlights Social Studies in APS. The Social Studies Office is focused on supporting inquiry-based practices, equity and inclusion, and performance assessments for all students. 4. It’s Time to Celebrate Proms and Graduation—Congratulations to the Class of 2022!
APS looks forward to a season of celebration as students gather for year-end events. View the schedule for high school graduations and middle school promotion ceremonies. For those who cannot attend high school graduations in person, live streaming links will be available. APS asks families of teens reaching these milestones to help ensure celebrations are safe for all. View tips for safe, alcohol-free celebrations. 5. ACC’s Yvonne Pettitford Wins 2022 Heart of Service Lifetime Achievement Award
Congratulations to Ms. Yvonne Pettiford, Arlington Career Center’s Alternatives for Parenting Teens Infant Care Center coordinator/director, for being awarded the Child Care Aware 2022 Heart of Service Lifetime Achievement Award! Ms. Pettiford was selected from 462 nominees throughout Virginia. Recipients of this annual award are nominated by colleagues, students, family, and friends for displaying “longevity and overall excellence in the field, with 20+ years of service, and a demonstrated commitment to a career of caring for children.”
