Arlington County Scholarship Fund for Teachers Awards Scholarships to 16 APS Students Student Awardees Sixteen graduating seniors who intend to pursue a career in education have been awarded scholarships by the Arlington County Scholarship Fund for Teachers, Inc. (ACSffT, Inc.). The awards will be presented at a ceremony on May 16, which also featured remarks by APS Principal of the Year Colin Brown and Teacher of the Year Jennifer Burgin. Scholarship recipients include: Lydia Cawley, Lorena DeSenne, Jhoselyn Diaz-Garcia, Ricardo Gomez, Saida Granados, Hannah Heidrich, Yesun-Erdene Jugdersuren, Sydney Kane, Angel Lopez-Soto, Joanna Paniagua, Ester Paz, William Siegal, Marisa Sydnor, Lauren Walker, Rebecca Weber and Natalie Zur. Recipients were chosen based on written applications and individual interviews with members of the Board of the ACSfft, Inc. Each student received a $2,500 scholarship to be used during their first year of college or university. “We were very impressed with the quality of the students this year,” said Cathy Eckbreth, ACSfft President. “They demonstrated excellent hands-on experience, as well as a passion for the field of education. The future of our schools looks brighter as these promising young people enter the teaching vocation.” The Arlington Scholarship Fund for Teachers, Inc. was established in 1955. The organization is sponsored by the Arlington County Council of PTAs, the Arlington Retired Teachers Association, the Arlington Education Association, the Arlington Civic Federation and individual school PTAs.
