Partnership promotes global education and international exchange opportunities for Arlington Career Center and Tokyo Metropolitan students

ARLINGTON, Va. – The APS Arlington Career Center in Northern Virginia and Tokyo Metropolitan Engei High School in Japan have affirmed a Sister School Agreement. The Sister School Agreement, signed on November 7, promotes understanding, friendship, global education, and international exchange programs between the two schools.

“International experiences and learning opportunities play an important role in preparing students to be successful global citizens by exposing them to new cultures and ideas,” said Margaret Chung, principal, Arlington Career Center. “The Arlington Career Center is proud to be a Sister School to Tokyo Metropolitan Engei High School, and we believe this partnership will help open new doors for students in both programs, while raising their awareness of global issues and building bridges of mutual understanding and respect.”

Tokyo Metropolitan Engei High School Principal Tokuda formally presented the Sister School Agreement as part of the school’s 110th anniversary earlier this month. In addition, Principal Tokuda and Tokyo Metropolitan Engei students visited the Arlington Career Center to tour the school and engage with students and staff earlier this year. To commemorate 100 years of friendship between Japan and the United States, students from both schools planted dogwood trees at the Arlington Career Center. Planting dogwood trees is a symbol of the friendship between the two schools.

This agreement is based on the strong belief that global education is an essential investment for students and that through this partnership, both schools can foster innovative educational and cultural exchange activities and programs for the students, staff, and the wider communities that both schools serve.
