All-Virginia Music Honors for APS Students 

Twelve APS students will be participating in All-Virginia Orchestra, All-Virginia Symphonic Band, All-Virginia Concert Band and All-Virginia Chorus ensembles this weekend. Greater Richmond and Newport News will serve as host to more than 700 students who comprise the 2022 All-Virginia Band, Chorus and Orchestra ensembles.

Concerts for all groups will take place on Sat, April 23.The Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News will be the performance venue for the orchestra and band ensembles. Concerts begin at 12:30 p.m. with the Orchestra, and last throughout the day until 3:45 p.m. J.R Tucker High School in Henrico will be the site for the choral performances. Performances start at 1 p.m. and will go until 3 p.m. Selected through a highly competitive audition process, there are five total high school ensembles, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Treble Choir and Mixed Choir, who will be playing over the weekend. Approximately 300 music teachers, who are members of the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, and the Virginia Choral Directors Association, will be in attendance. All of the teachers in attendance are also members of the Virginia Music Educators Association. 

Additionally, the Virginia Choral Directors Association will also be hosting selected All-Virginia Middle School Chorus students that are also slated to perform Saturday afternoon in Mechanicsville at Fairmount Christian Church. Performances are from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Gunston Middle School

  • Angelina Kaminsky, Kaiya Ovando, and Eimi Tuttle 

Swanson Middle School

  • Madison Kirkland, Ella Onur and Anisha Veeraraghaven

Arlington Public Schools to Participate Summer Meals Program

Arlington Public Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to students ages 18 and under on a first come, first serve basis, from July 5-Aug. 1 at Carlin Springs Elementary School (5995 5th Road S.).
