APS News Release

A Month of Bike, Walk and Roll to School Day? Let’s Roll with It!

Bike MonthFor nearly two decades APS has participated in Bike, Walk and Roll to School Day, which takes place the first Wednesday in May and provides an opportunity for communities across the country to celebrate active transportation by biking, walking and rolling to school. This year, in adherence with COVID protocols, APS is extending the celebration throughout the month of May, also known as Bike Month. The national theme for 2021 is “Let’s Roll with It,” and that’s exactly what APS plans to do.

Every school day during Bike Month (May 3-28), APS Safe Routes to School will be offering ideas, activities, resources and safety tips to help you roll with it. Visit the APS Safe Routes to School webpage and follow @APSsaferoutes for your recommended daily dose of Bike, Walk and Roll to School Day.

During the second week of Bike Month (May 10-14), we’ll debut APS Rolls, a week-long Bike/Walk/Roll to School Day celebration. Thanks to the support of our partners at BikeArlington, WalkArlington and Arlington Families for Safe Streets, APS elementary students who walk, bike or roll to school on Tuesday, May 11 or Thursday, May 13 will receive bike and pedestrian safety give-aways on arrival at school!

We know things are a little different this year, so we’re excited to offer some new ways to roll with it. Please help continue the strong sense of community that makes Bike, Walk and Roll to School Day so powerful by sharing ideas and posting your photos on Twitter using the hashtags #BiketoSchoolDay #APSBikes2021 and #APSRolls2021.
