Extended Day Registration for New Families

Registration for families new to Extended Day begins each spring, for exact dates please visit our Registration Page. Below is information to help new families through the registration process.

Register your Child with Arlington Public Schools

If your child is not registered with Arlington Public Schools (APS), please visit Registering with Arlington Public Schools or contact your neighborhood school.  After registering for APS you will receive an APS Student ID number which can be used during the Extended Day registration process.

  • From May 1 through June 30 Extended Day registration information may be submitted without an APS Student ID number by entering the child’s first and last name in the Student ID field.  Please refer to our Registration Information page for each registration phase’s eligibility requirements and dates.
  • After July 1, the student’s APS ID number must be provided for the student to be eligible for Extended Day registration.

To Create your Extended Day Family Account

  • Click on New Family Registration and complete the form.
  • Within 2-3 business days of completing this form, you will receive an email with your account credentials, a temporary password, and a link to complete your registration information.
  • Log in to your family account at Daycare Works and provide complete family information, including detailed information for:
    • each child
    • all parents/guardians in the household
    • two emergency contacts (other than the parents/guardians) who are within 30 minutes of the school
  • From the home page click on the blue ‘Personal’ tile on the left, or ‘Personal’ at the top of the page, then:
    • Click on “Update Information” under each person’s name and provide all required information.  Remember to click ‘Save’ at the bottom of each page.
    • To add another child, click ‘Add New Child’ (located at the top of the page), and provide all required information. Remember to click ‘Save’ at the bottom of the page.
    • To add Emergency Contacts, click ‘Add Contact’ (located toward the bottom of the page), fill in all the required information, and click save at the bottom of the page.  Make sure to add at least 2 emergency contacts, other than the parent(s)/guardian(s), who can reach the school within 30 minutes.

To Register for Extended Day Sessions (i.e. before and/or after school)

During your child’s eligible registration phase, log in to your family account at Daycare Works and click on ‘Registration’ (located at the top of the page).  Follow the steps in our Returning Family Registration guide.  If required information is omitted, a pop-up will indicate which information is missing.

Emergency Contacts

The registration process cannot be completed without two emergency contacts (name, phone number, and address).

To remove an existing emergency contact:

  •  change the Active status of the contact to ‘No’
  • email extended.day@apsva.us requesting to have the contact removed.

Each account must have a minimum of two emergency contacts.  If you remove an emergency contact and do not have two active contacts, you will not be able to complete the registration process.

Registration Fee

The annual registration fee is $40 for the first child and $30 for each additional child. The fee is billed during the registration process and must be paid by the stated deadlines on the Registration Page.  Registration fees are not refundable. After the Phase 3, registration fees must be paid within 10 business days of submitting your registration request.  Registration fees can be paid using one of the payment methods on the Payment Information page.

Please note that families new to Arlington Public Schools will not be able to use MySchoolBucks.com for online payments until mid-July.
