Performance Based Assessment (PBA) Scores for 3rd Grade World History

Students participated in a local alternative assessment process this year in 3rd Grade World History. Multiple performance assessments were scored by APS classroom teachers who reviewed essays using core criteria and task specific rubric components from the HSS State Developed Common Rubric -Early Elementary. All teachers participated in division wide scoring calibration training. The score that is being reported is the highest student score for the core criteria of the rubric. The task specific criteria varied by task and feedback on those components, as well as the core criteria reported here, have been provided to students as part of classroom instruction. The overall score for students on each performance assessment range from 0-4 or 99 if a student did not submit the assignment.

A Score of 4 indicates the student Fully Met Expectations.  At this level, students:

  • Used details to support content and vocabulary with detailed explanations that go beyond the identified topic or task.
  • Responded to the task with an explanation and details to support thinking.

A Score of 3 indicates the student Mostly Met Expectations.  At this level, students:

  • Used specific content and vocabulary to establish a consistent understanding of the topic or task.
  • Responded to the task with details.

A Score of 2 indicates that the student is Developing.  At this level, students:

  • Used content and vocabulary relevant to the task; but understanding is inconsistent throughout the task.
  • Responded to the task with limited details.

A Score of 1 indicates that the student is Emerging.  At this level students:

  • Used content or vocabulary, but understanding is limited throughout the task.
  • Attempted to respond to the task by restating the question.

A Score of 0 indicates Not Observed.  At this level students:

  • Submitted a response, but did not attempt to answer the question or address the skills.

A Score of 99 indicates Did not Submit.  At this level students:

  • Did not submit the assignment

If there is no score reported in Synergy, the student was granted an exemption for the SOL through the formal exemption process.
