Snapshots Highlights Girls Color of Leadership Conference

In this episode, Snapshots attends the annual Color of Leadership Conference. Organized by the Minority Achievement Office, the Color of Leadership Conference: Girls Rise Up! Setting the Stage for Success took place Sat, Nov. 19 at Yorktown High School.

The morning began with a warm welcome by Minority Achievement Supervisor Dr. Teri Adkins, Superintendent Dr. Pat Murphy, School Board Chair Nancy Van Doren, and the Chief of Staff, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, US Department of Education Maribel Duran. Over 150 middle school female students participated in workshops and activities designed to nurture their leadership skills in an environment where they felt supported, valued, seen and heard. In addition, over 40 APS staff members, high school students, and Arlington community members volunteered as mentors who traveled with small groups of students throughout the day.
