Updated Health & Safety Measures for Summer 2022

APS is committed to providing learning environments that are healthy and safe for all students. We continue to adapt our COVID-19 mitigation measures based on current conditions in Arlington, in accordance with the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

School Meals Update

As of March 2022, Congress declined to provide USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) authorization to extend National School Lunch program waivers to provide meals at no cost. School meal programs will return to normal operations when APS Summer School begins on July 5. The main change is that school lunch and breakfast will no longer be automatically served at no cost to all students.

Discovery Principal Receives Inaugural Greenprint Trailblazer Award

Green Schools National Network (GSNN), a nonprofit committed to shaping healthy, equitable, and sustainable schools, awarded recipients across Virginia with the first-ever GreenPrint Trailblazer Awards at the Washington, DC stop on a five-city tour celebrating its debut book, “Trailblazers for Whole School Sustainability: Case Studies of Educators in Action.

Congratulations to our 2021-22 APS Retirees!

As the school year comes to an end, so does the work of many of our employees here at APS. Last week, APS held a celebration for its retirees at the Lubber Run Community Center.
